The highest point in Guyana is Mount Roraima, with the the plateau standing at 2700 m with the peak at 2810 m in Venezuela. It is the tripartite border of Guyana, Venezuela and Brazil, and can only be reached from the Venezuelan side. Ancient Guiana Shield’s extended part comes in Brazil and Venezuela. It was once part of Gondwanaland before tectonic activity moved apart the continents of Africa and South America.

A very friendly and cheap hotel, Casa Gladys, attracts many tourists there and provides you with many facilities. It provides a shared kitchen for visitor use as well as laundry facilities. Left luggage remains locked in a safe room and a minimal daily fee is charged. A room with three single beds and an en-suite shower / toilet room costs 3,000 bolivars per person per night. (Approx. 680 Bolivars = US $1).

There are super markets in town’s centre along with internet and money changing facilities. For food, there is a restaurant just up the road from Casa Gladys “Parador Turistico Venezuela Primero” but you will have to book your table early. Next to this is a pizza parlor and many cafes are also there.

The things you will need to take with you there include waterproofs and warm clothes, minimal gear, all food that you will need for the trip, good boots, and plenty of camera film.

Enjoy!
